The DS508 has a 800MHz CPU and 512MB ram and space for 5 SATA hard drives.

Surveillance Station - Record the videostream of IP cameras.
Photo Station 3 - Copy your photos to the Synology and it will automatically generate a web photo album
Audio Station - Play the mp3's stored on your Synology directly using USB speakers
iTunes Server - Share your music for iTunes
UPnP server - Share your media with compatible media adapters
Web Station - The Synology has a built-in webserver to host your website.
PHP/MySQL - The webserver has PHP and MySQL capabilities
Download Station - Let the Synology download for you using HTTP, FTP or Bittorren.
ADS support - Use the Synology in a Windows Active Directory.
