Syabas has shown a new Popcorn Hour in front of media at the IFA convention in Berlin. The device is labeled A-400 will be considerably faster than current machines and fully compatible with 3D videos.
The A-400 is powered by a Sigma SMP8911 dual-core CPU running at 800MHz. RAM has stayed the same with 512MB DDR2 and 256MB of flash memory. Syabas’ specsheet comparison between previous and new products reveals that the A-400 will be the first with eSATA and SD Card support.
Users can also connect HDDs easier using the Quick Dock feature, admittedly adding storage was never difficult in the first place. Also new is the ability to control the Popcorn Hour using any tablet or smartphone eliminating that pesky remote that dumped the experience of previous models.
The case is more cube shape than before but otherwise remains largely similar. Syabas has chosen for a completely passively cooled design without fans disturbing users from movies or TV Shows. Cooling slots have moved from the side to the back, which is also where all the connections are. Users can transfer content in lightning speed using USB 3.0 or eSATA, and of course the A-400 also functions as a NAS.
